Sensational Army Raid in Ashashuni: 300 -kg jelly-injected tiger prawns destroyed

In a late-night operation in the Haribhanga area of Ashashuni, the Army seized 300 kilograms of jelly-injected tiger prawns, which were being prepared for illegal marketing.
These prawns, injected with harmful chemical jelly to increase weight and appearance, pose a serious threat to human health.
During the raid, conducted on Thursday night, three individuals were arrested on the spot. The seized prawns were later incinerated to ensure they could not enter the market.
According to the Ashashuni Army Camp, acting on a tip-off, a special military team led by Camp Commander Lieutenant Mashfiq Imtiaz launched the raid in front of the Haribhanga fish landing station around 8:30 PM. The suspects—Riazul Islam (34) and Alamgir Hossain (38) of Chowdhurypara in Kaliganj upazila, and Suman Das (32) of Dakshin Shripur—were apprehended while transporting the adulterated prawns by trawler to sell them in the wholesale markets of Khulna.
Military sources revealed that the weight of the prawns seemed unusually high, prompting further inspection. It was discovered that the prawns had been injected with a special jelly to artificially increase their weight and make them appear fresh and large. However, this method is extremely hazardous, as the jelly contains toxic substances.
According to medical experts, the chemicals used in the jelly can severely damage vital organs such as the kidneys and liver, and disrupt digestion. Regular consumption of such adulterated seafood increases the risk of developing cancer and other serious diseases.
The seized prawns were transported to the army camp and destroyed through controlled incineration following proper health protocols, ensuring they would not re-enter the supply chain.
Local fish traders applauded the army’s action. They stated that the dishonest practices of a few are tarnishing the reputation of the entire shrimp industry. They stressed the need for continued operations and strict legal measures to preserve the integrity of this vital sector.
