Two individuals have been arrested in a special operation led by the 40th Infantry Battalion (EB) following an incident of vandalism and arson at a soldier’s house in Hatinaja village due to previous enmity in Puthia Upazila.
The arrested individuals are Sujon (32), son of Amsul from Shibpur Bharra village in the same upazila, and Shahin Aktar Khokon (41), son of the late Sayem from Hatinaja village.
It is learnt that on the night of June 12, a raid was conducted under the leadership of Lt. Mohammad Tarek Aziz (BA-11691, attached to BIRC Rajshahi Cantonment from 40 EB Bogura Cantonment) in Hatinaja and Shibpur Bharra villages of the upazila. During this operation, the two were apprehended and subsequently handed over to Puthia Police Station.
It is mentioned thar on Monday (June 9) noon, a group led by BNP leader Rafiqul Islam and Rajjak attacked the house of Hannan in Hatinaja village, Puthia Upazila, due to prior enmity. They vandalized a fridge, TV, and furniture inside the house, looted cash and gold ornaments, and set fire to a tin shed attached to the boundary wall of the house by pouring petrol. The fire destroyed the tin roof, two goats, 50 maunds of onions, and 10 maunds of garlic. Later, police, army personnel, and fire service workers brought the fire under control.
In this incident, the soldier’s father, Abdul Hannan, filed a case at Puthia Police Station, naming BNP leader Rafiqul Islam as the prime accused along with 10 others, while also including 12 unidentified individuals as accused. The OC of Puthia Police Station stated that legal proceedings against the arrested suspects are ongoing.
