
Weapons, drugs recovered from former Satkhira MP's house, son arrested

The army conducted a raid at the house of former president of Satkhira District Mohila Awami League and former MP for the reserved women's seat Rifat Amin and recovered weapons and drugs. Rifat Amin's younger son Safayet Sarowar Rumon was arrested during the raid.
The raid was conducted at Rifat Amin's house in Munjitpur area of Satkhira city on Sunday afternoon. A team from the Satkhira army camp led by Major Iftekhar Rahman conducted the raid.
During the raid, Rumon tried to escape by jumping from the second floor of the house after sensing the presence of soldiers. He was injured in the leg and was immediately arrested.
Major Iftekhar Rahman of the Satkhira army camp said the operation was carried out based on a secret tip-off. A rifle, 300 pieces of Yaba, foreign liquor and various drug paraphernalia were recovered from the house during the operation.
It is learned that former MP Rifat Amin is currently staying at his eldest son's house in the United States. At the time of the raid, his younger son Rumon was living alone in the house. Rumon had been a drug addict for a long time, according to local sources.
The relevant authorities have said that legal proceedings are ongoing in this incident
