Wife gang-raped with help of husband, 5 arrested in Bheramara

A housewife was reportedly gang-raped in Veramara upazila of Kushtia after the perpetrators tied up her husband.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on Saturday (2 August) at Lichubagan in the Baromail area along the Kushtia-Ishwardi national highway. Police conducted a late-night raid and arrested five individuals in connection with the crime.
The arrestees are: Kalu Pramanik (46), son of late Mozammel Pramanik from Moslempur; Murshid Sheikh (45), son of Mozammel Sheikh from Sholdag; Titu alias Tipu (42), son of late Akshed Mondal; Ejazul (42), son of late Nabi Mondal; and rickshaw van driver Rubel Ali (24), son of late Habibul Sardar.
According to police, a man named Sohel from Naogaon lives with his wife in a rented house in the Kutirbazar area under Veramara police station. He works at a decorator shop, while his wife works as a cook at a hotel in the Baromail area. On Saturday night, after finishing her work, she was returning home with her husband on a van driven by Rubel. When they reached Lichubagan, 6–7 men intercepted them, tied up and assaulted Sohel, and dragged his wife into a roadside orchard where four of them took turns raping her.
Following the incident, Veramara police and a special team from the district Detective Branch conducted overnight raids and arrested the suspects. Police confirmed that the detainees confessed to their involvement during preliminary interrogation. Arrangements are being made for a medical examination of the survivor.
