On August 5, 2024, the Awami League government fell. To mark the one-year anniversary of that fall, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Pirojpur district branch organized a joyful procession and a brief rally on Tuesday.
The rally started at 10 a.m. from the premises of the Allama Saidi Foundation and quickly turned into a sea of people. The procession marched through several major roads of the town and concluded at the Town Club premises, where a brief rally was held.
At the rally, Masud Bin Saidi—nominated candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami for Pirojpur-1 constituency, former chairman of Zianagar Upazila, and son of Allama Delwar Hossain Saidi said, the previous government unleashed a steamroller of oppression and persecution, but Allah has rescued us from that. Jamaat-e-Islami has been struggling for the past 15 years, demanding reform-oriented and constructive elections. In that sequence, August 5 has arrived as the day of the beginning of a new Bangladesh. Jamaat wants to build an exploitation-free state. With your support, Insha’Allah, we will succeed.
He further said , hose who still think Sheikh Hasina will return to power are living in a fool’s paradise. To those compiling lists of Jamaat procession participants—we are also making a list of yours."
Speaking on war crimes trials, Masud said: "The trials conducted by the Awami League in the name of war crimes were a staged drama. The thousands of murders under Sheikh Hasina’s rule can never be forgiven. She must be brought back through a prisoner exchange and tried publicly."
Urging everyone to remain calm, he said: "Some people will try to provoke us by stepping on our feet, but we will not get agitated. Insha’Allah, victory will be ours."
Among others present at the rally were Tofazzal Hossain Farid, central Majlis-e-Shura member of Jamaat and district Ameer of Pirojpur, and a valiant freedom fighter, District Secretary Zahirul Haque, Naeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdur Rob, Assistant Secretary Sheikh Abdur Razzak, Municipal Ameer Maulana Ishaq Ali, Islami Chhatra Shibir Pirojpur District President Imran Hossain and other local leaders.
