A group of terrorists launched a sudden and vicious attack on M.A. Kaiyum,  Madaripur district correspondent of Global TV at 11 am on Sunday. 

The incident took place near Madbarerchar High School in Shibchar upazila, where the assailants had been lying in wait. M.A. Kaiyum Sheikh (42), the journalist from Global Television, was seriously injured in the brutal assault.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the Shibchar journalist community and the local civil society. They have strongly demanded that the attackers be arrested and brought to justice without delay. The Shibchar journalist community also warned that if the perpetrators are not apprehended soon, they will launch protest programs including human chains and demonstrations.In his account, the injured journalist M.A. Kaiyum said,  a group of 5 to 7 terrorists, led by former Chhatra Dal leader Rubel Munshi, suddenly attacked him at the location. They punched, kicked, and beat him with sticks, leaving him severely injured on the road. As he cried out for help, locals rushed to the scene, prompting the assailants to flee. He was then taken by locals to a nearby private hospital for initial treatment and later admitted to the upazila health complex for advanced medical care.He further added that the attack stemmed from his report on a metal signboard installed on the roadside. The signboard, displaying photos of Madaripur District BNP Joint Convenor Sajjad Hossain (Loblu) Siddiqui alongside terrorist Rubel Munshi, had caused injury to pedestrians—two individuals sustained head injuries on the same day. Following the broadcast of this news, Rubel Munshi and his group carried out the assault.

When asked for comment, Sajjad Hossain (Loblu) Siddiqui said, “I do not in any way support attacks on the media. Regardless of their political affiliation, those involved in terrorism must be brought to justice. Terrorists have no party.”

Shibchar Police Station OCMd. Ratan Sheikh said,  upon receiving the report, I visited the scene with a team and arranged for the journalist's medical treatment. The army was also present at the time. A complaint has been filed, and I will take immediate legal action.”
